Bon anniversaire Kelsey!
Nous avons commencé la journée avec le petit déjeuner à l'hôtel qui était très bon. Après le petit déjeuner, nous avons marché jusqu'à l'opéra Garnier. Notre hôtel est très proche du centre-ville donc c'est très facile de marcher partout. A l'opéra, nous avons appris sur la vie sociale du XIXème siècle, beaucoup de femmes à cette période allaient à l'opéra pour des raisons "sociales" et pas vraiment artistiques. Christina s'est amusée parce qu'elle a eu l'opportunité de chanter dans l'auditorium. Malheureusement, notre guide nous a fait un peu peur...! Il a beaucoup d'histoires dans l'opéra. Il a été construit pour Napoléon III. C'était très intéressant. Après notre visite, les groupes se sont séparés comme tout le monde s'intéresse à des choses diverses. Alors, Sarah B., Sarah G., Christina, Michael, Kelsey et Pete sont allés au Sacré Coeur. Il y avait beaucoup d'escaliers! Mais la vue était merveilleuse. Et bien qu'il y ait beaucoup de bruit dehors, dedans l'église était silencieuse. Nous avons aussi trouvé des artistes et exploré Montmartre. Jana, Abby et Liesl ont fait du shopping. Enfin, Adam et Maria ont visité Le Palais de Tokyo, un musée d'art moderne. Il y avait des artistes comme Y. Klein... et Pablo Picasso. Puis, dans l'après-midi, nous nous sommes rencontrés à l'hôtel pour aller à la Tour Eiffel. Nous avons eu un peu de temps libre. Donc, Mike est monté jusqu'au deuxième étage de la Tour (!) et les autres se sont promenés dans le jardin. Puis, nous sommes montés sur un bateau pour faire un tour sur la Seine. Nous avons vu des beaux bâtiments comme le Musée D'Orsay, Le Louvre et un hôtel dans lequel ont séjourné des célébrités comme Mozart et Voltaire. Après, tout le monde est retourné à l'hôtel et ensuite nous sommes allés au dîner au Général La Fayette et avons fêté l'anniversaire de Kelsey. C'était délicieux et nous avons fini de mangé à presque onze heures du soir! C'est difficile de faire toutes les choses à Paris mais nous allons essayer!

We started the day with breakfast at the hotel which was excellent. After breakfast, we walked to the Garnier opera house. Our hotel is downtown so it is easy to walk to these places. At the opera house, we learned about the social life in France in the 19th century. Lots of women at this time went to the opera for social and not artistic reasons. Christina had fun as she got to sing in the auditorium. Unfortunately, our tour guide was a little scary! There is a lot of history associated with l'Opéra Garnier. It was built for Napoléon III. After our visit, the group separated as everyone wanted to see different things. Sarah G, Christina, Pete, Michael, Sarah B and Kelsey went to Sacre Coeur Cathedral. There were a lot of stairs, but the view at the top was beautiful! And although there was a lot of noise outside, the inside was silent. They also found painters all around Montmartre. Jana, Abby and Liesl went shopping. Adam and Maria visited Tokyo Palace, which is a museum of modern art and features a variety of artists from Y. Klein to Picasso.
Then we met at the hotel to go to the Eiffel Tower. We had some free time to rest while Mike climbed up to the second tower level. Most of us walked in the surronding gardens and admired it from down there! Then we boarded a boat to take a tour of the Seine river. We saw some beautiful buildings like Musée D'Orsay, the Louvre, and a hotel where Mozart and Voltaire had stayed. After returning to the hotel, we met again to go to diner and we ate at the General La Fayette and celebrated Kelsey's birthday there. It was delicious and we didn't finish eating until 11.00 pm!
It's very difficult to do everything there is to do in Paris, but we're going to try!
